The GSM/GPRS sleeve for Compaq IPAQ- The Wireless Pack

Here it is, at last, the new GSM / GPSR sleeve for your 'Ipaq is available!

We are going to be able to phone all over the world and to reach Internet with only one device, your SmartPhone. Yes because the association of your Ipaq and your sleeve results in a SmartPhone.

By introducing your Pocket PC into your sleeve, it has undergone a mutation and became one of the most communicating object for the time being :

With this set, you're going into a new communication world !

But first, let's look at the content of the software and material set that is adding to your Ipaq :

- An very complete radio set, it is tri-band (1900 Mhz, american norm, 900 Mhz, GSM norm and 1800Mhz, DCS 1800 norm used by Bouygues Telecom which is now used by all mobile phone operators). By its means, you will be able to communicate in the whole planet but Japan that uses its own norm. This radio set works also as a GPRS and will allow you to connect to Internet with transfer rate extensively improved as compared to GSM.

- A slot to insert the SIM card of your mobile phone operator.

- A microphone and of a speaker to phone.

- A battery which comes in complement to the one delivered with your Pocket PC and which will allow you to power the sleeve.

- An earphone port and of an earphone endowed with a microphone to use the phone as a handfree device.

Your sleeve is delivered with a software from Compaq which is autorunable, but you might use any other software that use the communication through mobile phone, modem, so on...

We made tests in sending SMS, faxes,… with the application Pocket Winphone and it runs perfect (concerning the parameters, you should choose the following options.

You can generalize this example to any other software . But let's go back to our sleeve.

Discovering your GSM / GPRS sleeve

Let's discover together what this small jewel of technology looks like :

It looks like the other sleeves that Compaq manufactures and allows you to insert your Ipaq inside. We see on the top left the small antenna used by the radio element.

We can see it here next to the Ipaq. You can see here the small drawer allowing the plugging of the SIM card in the sleeve.

The Sim card, once inserted in its holder must be introduced in its case located on the left of the ejection button, in blue on the picture.

The plugging of your Ipaq in the sleeveonly takes only a few seconds and the installation of the software for your Ipaq runs automatically without your intervention.

VYou then get the following result :

One of the features of this sleeveis is that you phone with the back of the sleeve. The functions for handling your telephone are realized through the screen of your Ipaq when dialing phone numbers,… But on the other hand you phone by using the loudspeaker and the microphone in the back of the sleeve.
